The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 6.2 传统剥削片的表象作为类型的外壳，更多的是意在解构恐怖电影并赋予角色a second identity，不断地运用平行剪辑乃至分屏来达成两者的反差，可惜有想法但缺乏执行力，对于欲望的探讨也是浅尝辄止，就像片中的情色片那样卡在了porno和indie之间的尴尬境地。
饥渴的老头老太是恶魔。虽然故事和千篇一律的乡下虐杀片没啥区别，但片中的音乐音效相当有品，就和里面有追求的年轻小导演一样，排出有品味像法国电影一样的独立毛片。
最后一幕变态老奶奶的死法不要太刺激，哈哈哈哈

好活！该有的商业要素都有，还能迷影致敬，还能挖一个老年人的好视角
依旧是一部杀疯了的恐怖片。片中片照应的故事，作为一个对色情片有追求的导演，把后半段拍成恐怖片也很合理吧......郊外租房，行为怪异的人这种老套的故事，床震那段笑死了。
前半部分的铺垫很妙，无论是“pop your eyes out”还是鳄鱼的前后呼应，还是诡异却不知所以然的老年夫妻的跟踪和肉体、精神的破败，都让人头皮发麻，Lorraine摘下十字架项链是为“堕落”，反而开始大开杀戒后就变成了普通的血浆片了，主角团也不咋聪明，女主逃离也是靠运气，最后应该是隐喻Maxine和Pearl终究会不一样吧，Maxine逃离了邪教般的天主教家庭，Pearl一辈子被困在无性的婚姻里。

还有啥比一个八十多的老太太嘶哑地喊着'艹死我吧'更恐怖的吗
唯一被吓到的场景是女二尖叫。
质感其实很不错 个人觉得比soho惊魂夜执行自由很多 可惜就是暴力或情色作为任何一种引人买票的元素 它下料不够 毕竟不能要求恐怖片迷沉溺于影像质感
也许老年人才是最寂寞的吧。
